J.P. and Me

Hi, I'm Dani Davis. J.P. and I spent a quick 2 days together from November 17 to November 19. Time goes by so fast when you're having fun! We traveled to John A. Logan to go to the Purdy school. It was built in 1860 and relocated in 1983 to John A.. This school is a one room school house. I even got the chance to go to school there for a day when I was in fourth or fifth grade. It was really neat to see how students back in the 1800's spent a school day. J.P. and I traveled in my car. He said he was out of gas, so I picked up the slack for our friend. He would do it for one of us any day. After visiting the school, we went home for the night. We ended up traveling 30.6 miles together. Our latitude and longitude were 37.76 and -89.10. Our class total is 4,784.22 miles.

Brittany Allgaier and JP at Giant City State Park

Brittany and J.P's Trip

JP and I went on an adventure to a local attraction in Southern Illinois. We visited Giant City State Park and Lodge in Makanda, IL. We visited this historic landmark and ate some really good food. We learned that the Lodge was built by C.C.C workers back in 1933-1945. We got our picture by a statue that is dedicated to the C.C.C workers that built the lodge.

Then JP and I went inside the lodge and ate some lunch and got to see the buffalo inside!
We took this adventure on November 11th, 2008 and we went to Giant City Lodge and learned about the history of when the lodge and park where created. We went inside the lodge and also we visited outside and observed the landmark that represents the C.C.C workers that built the lodge. We traveled altogether a total of 24.2 miles in a car. The latitude was 37.5924861 and the longitude was -89.1829268. We had a great trip together and learned a lot about our local history.

J.P. Goes to Fort de Chartres

Today J.P. accompanied me to the historical town of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois. We went to Fort de Chartres and enjoyed a lovely day at the Fall Rendezvous. (Short background information on the fort: In the 1750’s France built this fort, which is known as Fort de Chartres to protect their values. However, in 1763 France surrendered to Britain and Britain gained possession of the fort. Britain did not see a reason for the fort and abandoned it. Then in 1917, it was restored and today many events take place there. The summer Rendezvous is the biggest event where re-enactors come and put on events for the public. However, due to the government, this historical site will be closed at the end of November.)

J.P. and I walked through the Rendezvous. We stopped by the museum and climbed up to the top of the fort to check out what the “colonial” people were doing. They were mostly eating lunch and enjoying themselves around a nice fire. If you look really close, you will see J.P. and me at the top of the fort.

Then we walked over to the cannon. J.P. fit well in the cannon, but I did not blast him off. J.P. and I had a great day, but our adventure had to end. Where will he go next?

We traveled a total of 160.2 miles in my car. So far, J.P. has traveled 3,437.36 miles!!!
Latitude: 38 degrees
Longitude: -90 degrees

J.P. visits Metropolis

I had the wonderful opportuniity of having J.P tag along with me last weekend. I took him to my home town of Metropolis, Illinois. J.P. also had the experience of going with me to my work place. That work place is Toys R' Us. J.P. had the greatest time of his life at my work place. When my shift was over J.P. didn't want to leave, so I had to bribe J.P into going somewhere where he has never been before. After J.P. said goodbye to his friends and family, I took him to visit one of the greatest known super heroes of the world. I took J.P to see SUPERMAN!!! As soon I pulled in for J.P to see Superman, J.P barked with excitement. J.P. had fun running around outside, and playing with some of the other tourists pets that came to southern Illinois to visit superman. Unfortunately I had to take J.P. back home, and my time with him was well spent. The number of miles J.P. traveled with me was 171.4 miles.

J.P. Visits Northern Illinois!

I, Rebecca Boudin, traveled to my hometown of Byron, Illinois with my boyfriend Ian and was fortunate enough to have J.P. tag along! A few miles before we got to Byron, we stopped at Lowden State Park, which is just outside the town of Oregon. I thought J.P. might like to get an up close and personal view of the park's famous Black Hawk Statue. As you can see from the picture, it was huge! It is on the edge of a 77 foot bluff that overlooks the Rock River. What you cannot see from the picture is that we had to fight off massive amounts of ladybugs to get a picture this close! That was probably J.P.'s least favorite part of this trip and I don't blame him!

The coordinates of the statue are as follows:

Latitude: 42 degrees, 0 minutes, 48.9 seconds
Longitude: -89 degrees, 20 minutes, 7.17 seconds

The total mileage for this trip is 773.5 miles. That means J.P. has broken the 3,000 mile mark and traveled 3,091.5 miles! That's some serious travel time!

J.P. at Cabela's on the loose with a moose!

J.P. traveled to Cabela's in the Mills Mall in St. Louis Mo. on September 27th, 2008, with my wife, Katie, and I (Darin Hicks).

J.P. loved the store, especially the mountain covered with animals. He was a little scared of the fighting black bears at first, but we reassured him that they had no interest in such a small dog. J.P. was quick to point out just how unusual it was to find such a variety of animals at a latitude of 38.787048000, and a longitude of -90.350156000.

At one point, J.P. (the explorer) decided to sneak off, and explore the mountain by himself. Thankfully, after a few tense minutes, J.P. was safely returned to me by an enormous moose! Apparently the moose saved J.P. from a pack of hungry gray wolves.

J.P. loved spending time in Cabela's, however, we decided that he'd had enough excitement for one day. So, we packed him back in the car, and headed home to complete our 326.2 mile trip. When we got back home (after a car ride of exciting stories about going to Birmingham Alabama, the Bible Museum in Petersburg Kentucky, and even watching the Redbirds play ball) J.P. and I discovered that he had now traveled a total of 2,318 miles! All through the night (while at my house) J.P. would ask where he was going to go next. I just told him that I didn't know, but I was sure he would love it!

J.P. Catches a Ballgame!

J.P. travelled with me, Julie Pioter, and my boyfriend Aaron to St. Louis, Missouri. While there, we took J.P. to a Cardinals baseball game. Even though the Cardinals lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, J.P. still had a great time. The Cardinals play in Busch Stadium, located at latitude 38.622, longitude -90.193. We travelled 240.8 miles together by car, and I think J.P. had his head out the window most of the time! J.P. has now travelled 1991.8 miles in his three trips, and he's ready to hit the road again!

JP and JM go to Birmingham!!

September 18th through 20th JP traveled with me, Jenny McClure, to Birmingham, Alabama. Together, we traveled a total of 1055 miles by car. We stopped in Nashville, TN and Huntsville, AL along the way. In Birmingham, we went to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). UAB is located at 33.75 degrees North and 86.75 degrees West. The pictures of JP were taken at a rest stop on I-65 just outside of Birmingham. I-65 is one of the Blue Star Memorial Highways. It is one of several memorial highways that pay tribute to the United States armed forces. I thought that would be a nice place for a photo op. :) JP has now traveled a total of 1751 miles in only two trips!
